How it works
What is Banega?
A place to pre-order things from independent Indian makers before they're made. Each campaign has a target: the number of units the maker needs to make a batch worth making. If enough people reserve one by the closing date, it gets made. If not, nobody is charged.
Is this an investment?
No. You're placing a pre-order for a product. You don't get a share of the business, interest or any financial return. Pre-orders, not investments.
Who am I buying from?
The maker. They're the seller, and your payment goes to their own Razorpay account, not to Banega. Banega verifies the maker, runs the campaign and handles the reminders.
What does "bana" and "nahi bana" mean?
Banega means "it will be made". When a campaign hits its target, it's bana: made. When it doesn't, it's nahi bana: not made, and nothing is charged.
Payments and e-mandates
What's an e-mandate?
A standing instruction to your bank that lets a business debit your account later, for an amount you agree to. It runs on NPCI's eNACH system. You approve it once, with Aadhaar OTP, netbanking or a debit card.
How much is charged when I reserve?
₹0. We don't take any money when you approve the mandate. The amount stays in your account, and you can use it as normal.
Is the money set aside?
No. A mandate is permission to debit later. Nothing is set aside or frozen. That's why we ask you to keep the amount in your account around the closing date.
How much can the mandate take?
Exactly the reservation total you see before you approve it, including any shipping. The mandate is capped at that amount, so it can't be used for more.
When is it debited?
Only if the campaign hits its target by its closing date. We email you (and WhatsApp you, if you opted in) at least 24 hours before the debit. If the target is missed, the mandate is cancelled and nothing is ever charged.
What if the debit fails?
We tell you, and try again 3 days later, up to 3 more times. If every try fails, the reservation lapses, its mandate is cancelled, and nothing is charged.
Can the mandate be used again later?
No. It's for one debit. We cancel it as soon as it's been used, or when the campaign closes without hitting its target. It also expires by itself 30 days after the closing date.
Why do you need my bank account at all?
Because nothing is charged upfront, the maker needs a way to collect if the batch goes ahead. The mandate is that way. Your card, UPI and bank details go to Razorpay, a licensed payment gateway; Banega never sees or stores them.
Changing your mind
Can I cancel?
Yes, any time before the closing date, from your dashboard. It takes two taps. The mandate is cancelled and nothing is charged.
Can I cancel after the campaign is funded?
Once it closes and hits its target, production starts, so cancellations aren't possible. If your order isn't delivered, see what happens if it isn't delivered.
Can I cancel the mandate at my bank?
Yes, and you're always free to. If you do it before the closing date, your reservation is cancelled. Cancelling it here is quicker.
Delivery
When will it arrive?
Each campaign shows the month it ships by. Makers post an update at least every 14 days until it ships, and you get each one by email.
What if it's late or never arrives?
If it hasn't shipped within 30 days of the promised month, you can ask for a full refund. Read the delivery-failure policy.
Do you deliver outside India?
Not yet.
Your data
What does the maker see?
Before delivery, a shortened name and your city. Once the campaign is funded and your payment is collected, the delivery details they need to ship it. Never your email or bank details.
Do you track me?
Only with your permission. Essential cookies keep you signed in. If you allow analytics, we remember which link brought you here for 30 days. No advertising cookies. Cookie policy.
Can I download or delete my data?
Yes, from your profile.
For makers
What does it cost?
5% of what you collect, only if you're funded. Razorpay charges its usual fee on your own account.
What do I need to launch?
A working prototype and a video of it, your PAN and address for verification, and a Razorpay account with e-mandates switched on. Apply to launch.
Can I list food?
Not yet. We'll accept packaged food once Banega holds an FSSAI Central Licence. Toys for children under 14 need a BIS licence.
Can I pay to be featured?
No. Nothing paid, including our Campaign Studio service, changes where a campaign appears.
